A group of well-dressed young women were seen last Wednesday in front of Lushan Hotel in Luohu District, stopping male passers-by* and asking them for one yuan (12.5 U.S. cents), the Southern Metropolis Daily said last Thursday.
The women, wearing their work IDs, were divided* into four groups and stood at the four corners of the intersection* of Chunfeng Road and Jiangbei Road. They walked up to men walking by and started talking to them, the newspaper said.
One of the women said that they were employees* of a company whose office was on the fourth floor of Lushan Hotel. These women had been sent by their employers to practice their interpersonal* and communication skills by talking to strangers and putting forward a little request such as asking for one yuan. Some of the women claimed* to have gained self-confidence from the task.
