读书月今日启动 千余名中小学生负责问卷调查

The Seventh Reading Month starts today with more than 1,200 primary and middle school students carrying out a large-scale survey on Shenzhen residents' reading habits.

The students, from 40 primary and middle schools in Shenzhen, will be responsible for collecting 12,000 survey samples. They will produce a research report based on the survey results with the guidance of experts.

Reading Month was launched by the Shenzhen Municipal* Government in 2000 as a way of stirring up* a passion* for reading among the public.

The organizing committee* will recommend* lists of books and electronic* publications* and hold events in November.

There will also be a book-sharing program, starting today on the first floor in the Luohu store of Shenzhen Book City and Binhe Middle School.

Another 60 book stations will soon be in place at local communities and schools for citizens to borrow books.

Local residents can take away one book from a book station each time and return it within a week. Citizens are also encouraged to donate books to the Shenzhen Book City stores.

The Reading Month activities also include a series of forums.

A forum on new trends in Chinese reading habits will be held from November 6 to 8.

The forum on Reading will involve* speeches from celebrities* like historians Yan Chongnian and Tang Haoming, performer Zhang Jiasheng, writers Shi Zhongshan and Wang Haiou.

Nan Huaijin, a well-known name in the study of Chinese culture and religions, may also speak at the forum, the organizer said.

Questions:

1. Did you benefit from past Reading Month activities? What were they and what did you learn?

2. Do you have your own reading list? Would you like to share it with us?

3. Have you participated in the survey on Shenzhen residents' reading habits? How many survey results have you got?

4. What do you think of the book-sharing program? Do you think it is an effective way to help people read more? Why? Do you think people can return books they borrow on time? Will you go to book stations to borrow books? Why?
