U.S. DJ Sharam Tayebi of house music duo Deep Dish will perform Thursday in Shenzhen.
Based in Washington, D.C., Ali “Dubfire” Shirazinia and Sharam Tayebi are well-known for providing house music or dance remixes of tracks by very famous stars like Madonna, Cher and Gabrielle, and for their live DJing sets.
They often collaborate with D.C. artist Richard Morel and produced a dance hit with his song “True (the Faggot Is You).” Earlier collaborations include “The Future of the Future (Stay Gold)” with British group Everything But the Girl. This track appeared on Deep Dish’s artist album, “Junk Science,” which was released in 1998.
The duo won a Grammy Award for their “Thank You” remix in 2002. Deep Dish has also collaborated with Danny Howells to remix the Eminem track “Without Me” (as a bootleg).
Deep Dish have appeared as the featured artist on the BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix on several occasions.
The duo’s most recent appearances took place on July 29, 2006. Their June 2005 Essential Mix was one of the nominees for 2005 Essential Mix of the Year.
Deep Dish are also well-known for their progressive house compilation albums in the famed Global Underground series. The last Global Underground album, by Sharam, was released in October of 2006.
They also own and run dance music record labels Deep Dish, Yoshitoshi, and Yo, among others.
