AN employee of the Futian District Urban Administration Bureau became the 60th bone marrow donor in Shenzhen on Monday, when people across the country marked “Learn From Lei Feng” Day, yesterday’s Daily Sunshine reported. Pan Li, 30, made the donation at Beijing University Shenzhen Hospital from where the marrow was flown to Shanghai and given to a 13-year-old girl, the report said. However, the report didn’t say what the girl is suffering from. Pan saw a blood donation bus seven years ago while on duty in Huaqiangbei. Without hesitation, he got on the bus and registered to be a marrow donor after giving blood. “I didn’t expect to receive the donation notification six years later,” Pan said. “I feel very happy to be able to make the donation on ‘Learn From Lei Feng’ Day.” Pan’s leaders and colleagues visited him at the hospital Monday afternoon — the first day they knew of his donation — bringing him flowers and fruit. Pan was notified in November last year that his marrow matched that of the 13-year-old. Pan was allowed to donate his marrow after various physical checkups but didn’t tell his colleagues until he needed to take leave from work. A doctor surnamed Li who was in charge of the donation said Pan was in good physical condition and would recover after a few days’ rest. Pan is the fourth bone marrow donor in Shenzhen this year.(SD News)
