A MAN was confirmed dead after a landslide Saturday despite 10 hours of rescue attempts.

The man surnamed Peng from Sichuan Province was building a protective wall against landslides with five other workers at the foot of a small hill in Buji Subdistrict, Longgang District when the accident occurred.

Chen, a coworker of Peng, said they were digging in a ditch when the accident occurred at round 4 p.m. Friday. Peng was buried in the ditch and he narrowly escaped.

“We have been digging the ditch for months to build a protective wall so that our boss could build a house”, he said.

“Some of us found the soil had come loose but our boss told us not to worry about a landslide because there was no water penetration.”

The boss is being questioned by police. (Han Ximin)
