An increasing number of people are relying on modern means of communication. Compared with the traditional ways of sending wishes to relatives and friends, text messaging is far more convenient and direct. It not only saves time but money as well. But at the same time, we are now facing the situation that most of the text messages lack sincerity and many messages have the same content. Network congestion, poor signal and loss of information are problems waiting to be solved.

Text messages are more convenient than older methods. We don’t need to go to a shop and select the nicest greeting cards. We don’t need to worry about what words to write in the greeting cards. We don’t need to pick up the phone and chat and ask about other people’s feelings. We only need to write a few words, or simply copy greetings from the Internet. Then we just press a button and the greetings are sent to whoever we want.

In modern society, text messaging is an efficient way for people to express themselves on special occasions. So it is very popular among youngsters. But every coin has two sides. Some people don’t even think of special words, and just copy greetings from the Internet. Sometimes during holidays, you receive the same greetings from different people. The receiptors can’t feel the love from the messages.

Also, at certain times, a lot of people send messages simultaneously, causing a “traffic jam.” Some people download messages from the Internet and their mobile phones get infected by a virus. Then the virus is sent from their mobile phones.

Compared with more traditional methods like greeting cards and phone calls, greetings can be sent more quickly and easily through text messages. You can send a message in a matter of seconds. You can also send the messages to many people at the same time and it doesn’t cost much money or time. But while sending text messages is an easy and fast way to send greetings, it can’t be the best way to send your real feelings and let other people know your sincere wishes for the festival. Using phone calls to express your greetings can make people feel warm and happy. Sending letters can cost you a little more but the greetings are more sincere.

Text messaging is convenient for people. They used to write long letters to express their feelings and go to the post office to send it. Sometimes the letters took too long to arrive. Later, they started making phone calls. However this kind of method does not always work, because if you call at improper time, it could be embarrassing. Sending text messages is more convenient.

However, using mobile phones too often is not good. For example, people type “2U” instead of “to you” and “4U” for “for you.” The simplified signals can only express simplified feelings, not sincere feelings.

Nowadays, an increasing number of people own mobile phones. And text messaging is slowly replacing handwritten letters in our life.

During the past Spring Festival, I also sent a lot of messages with my wishes to my friends. I like this method, because by this way I can get in touch with more friends. Before I had my own mobile phone, I never sent festival greetings to my friends. As we are students, we don’t have the time to make phone calls or send greeting cards to each other. Text messages are perfect for us.

But in another way, I think it could affect the friendship between adults. When they didn’t have mobile phones, they got in touch through phone calls or by meeting face to face. This is a good way to strengthen friendship.

During the lunar New Year holidays, people certainly desire to receive something that is sent sincerely. However, the words in text messages can’t give them that kind of satisfaction, while the handwriting of a person or his voice on the phone can. I received many messages during the festival, but they appeared cold, not intimate. I also received a card from a former classmate. His handwriting was still as great as ever, and I could feel the warmth which came from his heart.
