FOUR men were killed and one other injured yesterday morning in a traffic accident in Bao’an District.

The accident happened at 2 a.m., when a black Toyota Crown car with four men inside crashed into a truck in a tunnel on Bao’an Thoroughfare.

According to the police, three men in the car died at the scene and the other one was later confirmed dead at the district’s Shajing Hospital. The truck driver was only slightly injured in the accident.

Police believe the accident was caused by unsafe driving on the part of the car driver.

“The accident happened on a slope 50 meters away from the tunnel’s exit,” said a traffic police officer at the scene. “We believed the car drove in the wrong direction and tried to cross the tunnel before it crashed with the truck.”

However, he did not know why the car was driving in the wrong direction. “The driver together with all the other three passengers in the car were dead, and this made further inquiry impossible,” he said.

The car was registered in Guangzhou, and the truck came from Heilongjiang Province.
