Piano prodigy Liu Yangzi will stage a joint concert with the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra at Shenzhen Grand Theater on Friday.
Yu Feng will conduct the concert, which will include “Piano Concerto No. 3” by Beethoven and Brahms’ “Symphony No. 1.”
Members of the local philharmonic club are being offered free tickets by the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra.
Liu, a pupil of top Chinese pianist and conductor Shi Shucheng, began learning to play the piano at the age of 4 and gave her first public performance at 10. Having performed with a symphony orchestra at 11, the piano prodigy is now studying at the Hamburg Academy for Music and Theater in Germany.
Liu showed a great interest in musical instruments at a very young age and has won many piano competition awards. The 18-year-old has performed in many countries, including Russia, France and Germany. In 2004, she performed in France on behalf of the Chinese Ministry of Culture in honor of the “Sino-France Culture Year.” She also published her first CD of Beethoven’s “Piano Concerto No. 3 in C Minor” and Saint-Saens’ “Piano Concerto No. 2 in G Minor” the same year.
“Symphony No. 1” by Brahms, dubbed the “greatest symphony after Beethoven” and part of the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra’s traditional repertoire, was first performed in Germany in November 1876.
