NEDERLANDER, one of the biggest operators of theaters on New York’s Broadway, announced in Beijing on Wednesday that it would set up a network of Broadway Theaters in large Chinese cities, to introduce musicals to the country. A new company, Broadway China Network, will manage the chain. Robert Nederlander, chief executive of Nederlander Theater, promised it would introduce classic Broadway musicals to China as well as inject new vigor into the country’s theater industry through better management, programing and ticketing. The first show in China will be the famous “The 42nd Street,” which tells the story of a young actress named Peggy Sawyer who rises from chorus girl to Broadway star. Broadway China Network said ticket prices would be between 200 and 300 yuan (US$25.81 to 38.71), and the same in each city. (SD-Agencies)
