WANG SHUNSHENG, former mayor of Zhuhai City, was elected as a vice chairman of Shenzhen’s political advisory body Friday.
Wang, 58, a politics graduate from the prestigious Renmin University, was elected during the annual session of the Shenzhen committee of Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) that closed Friday.
In a brief interview with Shenzhen media after the CPPCC meeting, Wang said he would help promote Shenzhen-Zhuhai communication and improve public welfare.
“I’m happy to be back in Shenzhen, and feel at home here,” said Wang, who held senior positions in the Shenzhen government for eight years before leaving for Zhuhai in 2002, with a big smile.
A former vice mayor of Shenzhen, Wang served as Zhuhai mayor for five years before returning to the Shenzhen advisory body in January 2007.
Wang said he hoped to push for more communication and cooperation between Shenzhen and Zhuhai, two cities that he knows well.
Public welfare will also be an important part of his work, said Wang. “This year’s government work report mentioned many issues of public concern, such as environment, medical services and education. We will push toward the solving of the problems,” said Wang.
Before he left, Wang told reporters: “I’m familiar with Shenzhen. I love the land of reform under my feet.”
