The new US$40 million epic from Golden Horse Award-winning director Peter Chan will appear in theaters on December 13. “Tou Ming Zhuang,” or “The Warlords,” is the biggest production the China Film Group Corp. will work on this year. The film was the subject of controversy* when it started filming under the original title of “Ci Ma” last year, because many thought it was a remake* of Chang Cheh’s 1970s movie of the same name. Chan stressed that his new film is not a remake and changed the name to “Tou Ming Zhuang.” The English title also changed, from “The Violent Land.” Jet Li, Andy Lau, Takeshi Kaneshiro and mainland actress Xu Jing-lei will star in the movie.
