Braving a storm
    2007年05月09日

Cathy had always been a hard-working and obedient student. One day she called her teacher Ms. Lee, saying that she could not go to school because she had a fever. So Ms. Lee decided to visit Cathy’s home.

Lee arrived to find nobody in the house. She became confused and was lost in thought.

Actually, Cathy was on her way to the hospital after being told that her father, who worked as a miner, had an accident. One night, the mine collapsed suddenly while the miners were working. Unfortunately, Cathy’s father was one of those badly injured.

Waiting outside the operating room, Cathy felt very helpless. She couldn’t afford the medical fees. But she concealed the fact because she didn’t want Lee and her classmates to feel anxious.

After a week, Lee found that Cathy had not told her the truth. She was greatly concerned. She persuaded the school, including teachers and students, to donate some money for her. With the help of the school, Cathy’s father got proper treatment and gradually recovered.

Cathy was moved so much that she worked harder than before. As a result, she was admitted by a prestigious university. Difficult situations can stimulate a person’s potential for success.
