Students: New regulation more humane
    2007年08月08日  00:45    Shenzhen Daily

Shenzhen college students said they appreciated the new government regulation on the marriage and childbearing of college students, but many said they would think twice before enjoying the privilege, according to a Daily Sunshine report on Saturday.

“Most of the college students are not financially or mentally prepared to marry or give birth during schooling period,” a Shenzhen University senior surnamed Chen said, adding that the majority of her classmates echoed* her opinion.

The main task of students is to study, and childbearing will definitely interfere with* the study process, Chen said.

Some teachers have also urged universities and colleges give adequate guidance and education to students who consider starting a family.

A teacher surnamed Lin at Shenzhen University said the regulation better applies to postgraduates given their experience and maturity.

“It’s not uncommon to find students dating or even living together, but as to the issue of marriage and childbearing, most of the students are rational enough to say no,” he said.

However, students and teachers alike applauded the new rule, which they said gave more respect and freedom to college students.
