Darcy Fisher SKATEBOARDERS of various ages and skills levels braved the Shenzhen heat in Shekou on Saturday to participate in a bowl competition held at a skate shop Sketch. The 2-year-old Sketch, owned by Andrew Guan, is well known among the skating community for having a skate bowl, one of only two on the mainland, the other being in Shanghai. The competition was divided into three skill levels: beginner, intermediate and advanced. The judges based their scores on difficulty of tricks performed and overall skating style. In the beginner category, Liu Jiaming came first, followed by Fei Fei and Xia Nan. In the intermediate level Guan placed first. In the advanced level, Ron Smith placed third while Nathan Mettler and Jay Meador tied for first place and had to have a face-off. The competition was sponsored by Independent truck company.
