SINGERS and artists from Shenzhen staged a concert of songs composed by Shenzhen musicians at the Sydney Opera House on Monday in the fifth year of a campaign to encourage musical compositions., the Daily Sunshine reported yesterday.
Singers including Chen Chusheng, the winner of this year's national singing contest Happy Boy, Shenzhen singers Tang Lei, Xu Qianya, and Mainland stars Xu Wei and Wang Feng entertained the audience an unforgettable night of music.
It was the first time that original music produced by Shenzhen musicians over the past 20 years, had been taken overseas. It was also the first time that Chinese pop music had been featured on the the stage of the Sydney Opera House, the report said.
A Shenzhen girl now studying in an Australian university also sang a song written by herself on stage. "Shadow of the Moon" touched the audience and won applause.
"I am not a professional songwriter, but the song really tells how I feel for my homeland when living abroad alone even though its melody is rather simple," said Zhu Wenjing.
The performance was broadcast by more than 100 Chinese radio stations around the world.
