A total of 600 bookplates selected from more than 2,000 entries by bookplate designers are on display at Book City in Futian District. Most of the entries are from young students in Shenzhen, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao.
Organized by the Shenzhen Bookplate Academy, the Nanshan District Government and the Nanshan Education Bureau, the exhibition is one of the activities included in the Eighth Shenzhen Reading Month, which continues until the end of November.
Bookplates are labels usually pasted on the inside front cover of a book as a mark of ownership. The earliest known use of bookplates is believed to date from the middle of the 15th century in Germany. The Latin words "Ex Libris," meaning "from the library of," were often used.
