Cantopop ‘god’

back again

Cantopop “god” Jacky Cheung will stage another concert at Shenzhen Stadium after his July show at the same venue.

Cheung is regarded by many as one of the finest male singers to have come from Hong Kong. He is known for his rich baritone voice and wide range and exceptional interpretative powers.

According to the organizer, Cheung will sing three hours of hits at the concert.

Art from Vienne

An exhibition, featuring 80 paintings created by artists from Vienne, France, is being held in Shenzhen for the first International Sister Cities Culture and Art Week.

Women in ink

From historical female figures to ordinary housewives, ink paintings depicting women and motherhood created by Hong Kong artist Leung Kit-wah is being shown in Shenzhen.

Born in Hong Kong with her family origins in Shunde, Guangdong Province, Leung has loved painting since childhood. She learned traditional Chinese ink painting from masters Zhao Shaoang and Bao Shaoyou and oil painting from Xu Dongbai and Wu Buyun.

Most of Leung’s works feature women, including the “four beauties of ancient China,” Wang Zhaojun, Xi Shi, Yang Yuhuan and Diao Chan, and other fictional and mythological figures. Leung’s works allow art-lovers to have an appreciation of ancient Chinese fables and traditional Chinese ink-painting techniques.

Replicas of masterpieces

Two exhibitions running through to the end of the month at Artron Art Gallery feature replicas of ancient Chinese paintings and Pan Yuliang’s works.

The replicas of ancient Chinese paintings are based on masterpieces of the Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties and are housed in the Taipei palace museum, while the replicas of Pan Yuliang’s paintings, based on six original works, are housed in the Anhui Art Museum.

Pan’s paintings have a blend of Chinese and Western genres. Her paintings of nude models were criticized as violating cultural norms in China and generated much controversy.
