Beijing may limit tourists at Great Wall
    2007年11月22日  05:33    Shenzhen Daily

BEIJING may limit the number of Great Wall visitors to 53,300 per day, the capital's greenery administration said yesterday.

The designated area of 326.37 sq km, which includes the Badaling section and the Mausoleum of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) will allow in a maximum of 16 million tourists every year while a four-level control plan may also be adopted on different sections on the Great Wall, the administration said in a blueprint.

The blueprint has been posted on the administration's Web site, the Beijing Times reported yesterday.

Visitors will be forbidden from hiking on sections of the Great Wall that have never been renovated, according to Level 1, the strictest.

Level 2 controls apply to partially-renovated sections. A limited number of tourists will be allowed to climb these sections, the report added.

Fully renovated sections such as Badaling and Juyongguan will be open to all visitors, according to Level 3. But traffic flow will be restricted during holidays, the report said.

The administration said Level 4 will not pose limitations on visitor numbers. The Great Wall museum will be a Level-4 site.

The plan also calls for parking lots to be relocated outside an inner circle area at Badaling, Juyongguan, the mausoleum and the Yinshan Pagodas Scenery Area.

People are encouraged to call 010-6205-6593 (Mandarin) or send e-mails to gyl-cfjqc@sohu.com to give suggestions on the blueprint by Nov. 28.
