On show: a 6-billion-yuan banknote
    2007年11月27日  03:33    Shenzhen Daily

Have you ever seen a 6-billion-yuan banknote? What would you buy if you possessed a 6-billion-yuan banknote? It is hard to imagine, but in 1949, a 6-billion-yuan banknote could only afford a grain of rice in China. And now you can have a chance to take a look at the banknote in Hong Kong.

An exhibition featuring 200 pieces of selected memorabilia from the Shanghai Bank Museum and Hong Kong Museum of History will open tomorrow.

Including signboards, banknotes, receipts, savings boxes and books, bank equipment and souvenirs, this exhibition depicts the development of the banking industry in Shanghai and Hong Kong.

The most eye-catching item there is the 6-billion-yuan banknote issued by the Bank of Xinjiang in 1949. Due to inflation, the government issued notes in very large denominations, including 60-million-yuan, 3-billion-yuan and 6-billion-yuan notes.
