Winner hopes to be teacher and ‘happy boy’
    2007年11月28日  01:33    Shenzhen Daily

Liu Minxia

The youngest and the only boy among all the nine winners in the three categories in Saturday’s contest, Luo Xijie said he wanted to become an English teacher and compete in the ‘”Happy Boys” singing contest when he grew up.

Watching English cartoons has been a part of Luo’s daily routine since he was 2.

“Both of us can not speak English. What we can do is to provide him with a good environment for English study,” said Luo’s parents. “We helped him form the habit of watching English cartoons and now he also watches CCTV-9 programs every day.”

Luo, now a 10-year-old student of Shenzhen Primary School, said he could understand about half of what he watched on CCTV-9, CCTV’s English-language channel. After winning third place in the primary group, Luo said he would study harder in order to realize his dream of becoming an English teacher.

Luo is not only a good English speaker but also an award-winning singer. Last year, he won a prize in Shenzhen’s child singer contest.

Luo said he hoped to be able to take part in the “Happy Boy” singing competition some day.
