As part of the city’s annual Reading Month, which will end Friday, the renowned Taiwan poet Yu Kwang-chung will give a speech on the topic of inspiration.
Born in 1928, Yu is a well-known writer, literary critic and translator. So far, this prolific writer has published 17 poetry collections and 12 prose collections. Since the 1970s, Yu has written a number of poems expressing the nostalgia felt by Taiwanese people for their homeland and family members on the mainland.
Addressing the issue of China’s reunification, Yu once said: “We are all descendants of China and share the same brilliant Chinese civilization. No one can deny this. I believe the 5,000-year-old Chinese culture will be a centripetal force in promoting the reunification of China.”
