Border boom

A TOTAL of 800,000 passengers and 100,000 vehicles crossed the Shenzhen-Hong Kong border at the Huanggang Checkpoint during the four-day Easter holiday period that ended Monday.

Bribery trial

FAN HUIMING, former chairman of Shenzhen Lionda Holding Co. Ltd., stood trial at the Shenzhen Intermediate People抯 Court on Monday on charges of embezzling 10 million yuan (US$1.41 million) in public funds and taking bribes.

Fan, who is nearly 70 years old, was arrested last year in Beijing after being on the run for nine years.

Man held

A MAN from Northeast China was stopped Monday while attempting to board a flight to South Korea using a forged visa.

The man, who claimed to be the manager of a cosmetics company, held a business visa, but after questioning, he admitted to having forged the visa to work in South Korea.
