Truck hits crowd

AN out-of-control truck slammed into a large crowd of people on Saturday, killing at least eight and injuring 10 at a popular tourist spot in Nanyang City, Henan Province, domestic newspapers reported yesterday.

CHINA has drawn up fines for retailers giving away free plastic shopping bags.

Retailers could be fined up to 10,000 yuan (US$1,428 ) for providing plastic bags from June 1, according to the Ministry of Commerce.

A MAN and two relatives guarded an automatic teller machine for more than four hours to protect his 10,000 yuan (US$1,428.57) after the machine malfunctioned Sunday in Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province, a newspaper reported yesterday.
