GUILLAUME DAH ZADI headed in a late goal as Chinese champion Changchun Yatai picked up its second home win in Group E in the AFC Champions League with a 1-0 win over Pohang Steelers at Changchun City Stadium in Northeast China’s Jilin Province yesterday.
The Korean side dominated the match but was kept at bay by Changchun goalkeeper Zong Lei, who made a string of excellent saves to deny Pohang’s Brazilian forwards Aldo and Denilson. Those saves would prove invaluable four minutes from time when Pohang failed to sufficiently clear a Du Zhenyu corner and an unmarked Dah Zadi headed into the unguarded net to give Changchun all three points.
The side moved to the top of the group with seven points from three games, three ahead of Adelaide United.
Changchun had a loud claim for a penalty after 10 minutes when Du appeared to be pulled down in the box by goalkeeper Shin Hwa-yong but Qatari referee Abdulrahman Abdou waved off the appeals.
It was one of the few bright moments in the opening half for the home side as Pohang dominated proceedings only to be continually denied by Zong Lei.
Meanwhile, another Chinese team, Beijing Guoan, lost 1-0 to Japanese champion Kashima Antlers in an away match last night.(SD-Agencies)
