A MAYOR in central China's Hubei Province should take full responsibility for a traffic accident in which an 11-year-old boy was killed, said a traffic official Monday.
Fan Xiaolan, the mayor of Dangyang City, was suspended from her post April 12 after news of the accident was made public.
Fan was driving at a speed of 60 kilometers per hour from Yichang City to Dangyang around 7:20a.m. on March 17, said Wang Shenghua, the head of Dangyang's Traffic Management Team, Beijing News reported yesterday.
In many cities in China, drivers are required to slow to 30 kilometers per hour on roads in front of schools, the report said.
Fan hit Wang Jiyang as the boy was walking across the zebra line. The grade-five student died at the scene.
Fan's car belongs to the Dangyang city government and according to regulations officials cannot be driven without permission. Fan did not have the authority to drive the car at the time of the accident. (SD-Agencies)
