Guangzhou woman fell to death "accidentally"
    2008年04月16日  08:08    Shenzhen Daily

The Guangzhou Public Security Bureau confirmed Monday that the death of a woman, who fell from the 30th story of a building in the city earlier this month, was accidental, the Southern Metropolis Daily reported yesterday.

Previous media reports had said that Tan Jing, 24, was a prostitute who had been pushed to her death April 4 after an altercation with clients.

Police investigation showed that Tan, a model from Henan Province, had a large amount of alcohol in her blood, and there was no evidence of a fight in the apartment from where she fell.

A neighbor surnamed Wang had been quoted in earlier media reports as saying that Tan had been murdered by three male clients who refused to pay her the price she demanded after having sex with them.

According to the police, Tan had been drinking that night with four South Korean friends, three of whom were male. As Tan was very drunk, the three men took her to an apartment rented by one of them.

After an hour, she went to the toilet and made a great deal of noise. The Koreans went to check on her, and found the noise had stopped. When they broke the door down, they found she had broken the bathroom window and fallen through it. The Koreans reported the case to the police immediately.

"Many people thought she fell out of the window in just her underwear, but actually her clothes were torn to pieces by the broken window," an unnamed witness said.

Tan used to work and live in South Korea and could speak fluent Korean.
