EXHIBITORS will showcase cutting-edge medical devices from around the world at the 59th China (International) Medical Equipment Fair (CMEF) at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center from tomorrow to Monday.

A total of 2,000 exhibitors, more than half of which are from overseas or have foreign investors, will attend the fair, organized by Reed Sinopharm Exhibitions, a Beijing-based company that specializes in exhibitions for the medical devices industry.

Multinationals including Siemens, General Electric, Philips and Hitachi will display their medical imaging equipment in Hall A of the exhibition center, Li Chao, a manager with Reed Sinopharm said yesterday.

The event, supported by the Shenzhen Municipal Government and China National Medical Equipment Industry Corp., will feature 10,000 products in some 40 key categories including the latest software and IT technologies used by hospitals, as well as the latest administrative software and services for hospitals. The fair mainly targets hospital administrators, doctors, agents and distributors, according to Li.

With more than 4,500 booths and covering 98,000 square meters, the fair is expected to attract 120,000 visitors in four days.

“It is the second time for us to organize the fair in the city, which is known for its export-oriented economy, and we hope more overseas visitors will come to the fair,” said Li.

More than 9,000 professional buyers, including 3,000 from 80 countries, have registered for the fair, a record in the fair’s 30-year history.

The expo will also feature various seminars and forums. More than 10 seminars will be organized to provide a platform for the exchange of knowhow among local government officials, medical professionals and industry experts.

Admission to the fair is free for the public.

With 30 years of steady growth since 1979, CMEF, a biannual event, has established itself as the Asia Pacific’s biggest event serving the medical devices market.
