CHELSEA is planning a player clear-out that may see as many as 10 first-team squad members leave the Premier League club at the end of the season, the Times of London reported. Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich and manager Avram Grant are united in their assessment that an overhaul is required for the club to win trophies, the newspaper said, without citing anyone. Abramovich is ready to release “substantial funds” to buy world-class players, it added. Andriy Shevchenko, Claudio Pizarro, Steve Sidwell and Tal Ben-Haim will be put up for sale, the Times reported. The futures of Florent Malouda, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Carlo Cudicini and Juliano Belletti are also unclear, while Didier Drogba, Frank Lampard and Wayne Bridge are unsettled, the newspaper added. Chelsea’s biggest problem in revamping its squad may be finding clubs willing to match the wages it pays to fringe players.(SD-Agencies)
