London DJ Miss Monument will show off her musical tastes in Shekou, spinning breaks and electro in her own unique way. Breaks (sometimes breakbeat or breakbeats) is a term used to describe a collection of sub-genres of electronic music, usually characterized by the use of a non-straightened 4/4 drum pattern (as opposed to the steady beat of house or trance). These rhythms may be characterized by their intensive use of syncopation and polyrhythms. Miss Monument’s background has always been musical, having trained as a classical pianist since the age of 4 with London’s Royal School of Music. After having her eyes opened to the underground music scene, it was only natural for her to move into the world of breakbeat where her passion now lies. Miss Monument’s skill and dedication have made a strong impact on the London underground scene. Her sets are always aimed squarely at the dance floor and her fusion of funky breaks will get your feet moving, just as she does herself behind the decks. Though music is her passion, there’s more to Miss Monument than meets the eye. She is now channeling her musical knowledge into producing some wicked beats and the next weapon in Miss Monuments arsenal is her rapidly improving scratching skills.
