Household appliance retailers Gome and Suning will stay open till midnight April 30 night as a May Day holiday celebration, offering special discounts on various items. Suning will offer discounts ranging between 5 percent and 50 percent.

Department stores

Shirble is offering a "buy 200, get 200" promotion on spring and summer wear from April 30 to May 4.

A 200-yuan coupon redeemable at Moi will be given to customers spending 200 yuan in Moi's Dongmen, Shennan and Members' stores during the May Day holiday. Spring and summer items are at 34 percent off at Moi's Huaqiangbei store.

At Rainbow Department store, 100 yuan in cash will be given to customers spending 200 yuan. Rainbow's Houhai store also offers a 34 percent discount on some of the products.

Supermarket

China Resources Vanguard will have promotions on washing powder, shower foam and packaged breakfast products during the upcoming May Day holiday.

Customers who spend 88 yuan or above at any China Resources Vanguard in Shenzhen from tomorrow to May 3 will be eligible to enter a lucky draw. Customers who spend 200 yuan on clothing will get a 80-yuan or 120-yuan coupon redeemable at the stores [S?]. Customers will also have get the chance to win coupons by buying other kinds of products, like furniture, sportswear and electronic products.

Exhibition

More than 120 works by 16 resident and retired artists of Shenzhen Fine Art Institute (SFAI) are on display at an art exhibition at Guang Shanyue Art Museum until May 25.

Titled "We Keep Pace with Time," the exhibition showcases the achievements SFAI artists have made in both the research and creation of art over the past two decades.

They exhibition was previously held in the gallery of the National Fine Art Institute of China in Beijing this January.

The works by artists Dong Xiaoming, Zhou Kai, Lu Jia, Wang Lixing, Yang Xiaoyang, Yu Changjiang and Zheng Qiang focus on urban landscapes and the lives of city dwellers.

In contrast, the works by artists Tian Kesheng, Qijia Dawa, Song Chengde, Fuzhong Qi and Hai Yan tend to show aesthetic tastes in traditional Chinese landscapes and figures.

Another group of artists, including Liang Quan and Yan Shanchun, place more emphasis on experimental forms of expression by using different kinds of media.
