Linda and her friends went hiking one weekend. After taking a short rest midway, they continued the journey. Suddenly, they found one person was missing. They got confused and started to worry about her because 8-year-old Kate, the missing girl, was the youngest member in the group.

“Did she feel tired and give up?” Linda couldn’t help thinking. “But if she had told us, we would have called her parents to pick her up. But now what will happen to her? She is so young and has never experienced anything like this before.”

Linda voiced her fears to the others and found they also felt the same way. So they decided to go back the place where they had spent a few hours resting and started looking for Kate.

But it was not easy. The small village was full of people now. There were many kids who were as young as Kate. They felt disappointed, but still followed the route they had walked.

“We must inform her parents,” one of Linda’s friends cried. “Yes, if we still can’t find Kate, we must get help from her parents, and even the police,” Linda said.

Linda quickly dialed the number of Kate’s mother.

“Hello this is Linda. We’ve got to tell you, it’s really serious that Kate is missing,” Linda said

“She is not missing. She is home right now,” Kate’s mother said.

“What happened?” said a shocked Linda.

“Oh, sorry to tell you so late. My daughter came back to take more food with her. She thinks that the food you are carrying is not enough, and now she’s ready to set off. Sorry Linda, she will soon catch up with you girls,” said Kate’s mother.

Linda couldn’t say a word. But she felt foolish that she had thought of Kate as a little girl who knew nothing at all.

Tina was missing. Linda ran shouting: “Tina, Tina, where are you? Can you hear me? Please respond.” At that time, Tina was picking some flowers for her mother, because it was her mother’s birthday.

A few minutes later, Tina heard someone calling her. She thought “Oh! Where are my friends? Oh, My God! I am not with them.” Tina recognized the voice as Linda’s. She wanted to call Linda, but there, the mobile phone didn’t have any signal. Tina shouted: “I am here. I am here.”

Linda heard a voice near her. She looked around, and saw Tina was not far from her.

Linda was excited, and she said: “Where have you been? We are worried about you. What’s wrong with you? I was frightened when I couldn’t see you.”

“Sorry, this is my fault. Excuse me. Today is my mother’s birthday, so I want to pick some flowers for my mum,” Tina said.

“My God! Lily is lost!” Linda shouted loudly. What a great shock! Linda and the others were so tense that they didn’t know what to do. Linda tried her best to calm down. “Now, let’s split into four groups and look for Lily immediately.”

The girls set out. Linda and a friend went up a small hill they had just crossed. Since there were many trees and shrubs, they walked slowly. A few hours passed, but they still couldn’t find Lily.

Suddenly, the tired and worried Linda screamed out excitedly, “Come here, Lily is here!”

Lily was lying unconscious near a big stone. What a dangerous situation! There was no time for Linda to lose; she adopted some first-aid steps she had once learnt.

Fortunately, all the measures were effective. After a short moment, Lily regained consciousness.

She recalled that she had been interested in a special plant on the hill, and wanted to look at it closely. However, she slipped and rolled down the slope. Her head hit a stone and she lost consciousness!
