ONE hundred days from today, China will host the Olympic Games.

Beijing will hold various celebrations today to celebrate the 100-day countdown to the opening of the Aug. 8-24 Games.

Nearly 1,000 people will take part in the Sport for All Marathon, which will start from the Olympic Park and end at the National Stadium, also known as the Bird’s Nest, covering 31.5 kilometers, according to Li Jinkang, vice director general of the Beijing Sports Administration.

Apart from the marathon, more than 10,000 people from all walks of life will participate in a two-kilometer run.

More than 2,000 residents will also perform taijiquan and traditional dances at the Olympic Park.

The Beijing Workers’ Indoor Arena will hold a song festival featuring community members of the capital city in the afternoon and the Beijing Working People’s Cultural Palace will stage an art performance in the evening to unveil the winners of the campaign for Olympic songs, a crusade that has lasted four years.

Celebrations will also be held to mark the countdown in co-host cities in the country today.

In Nepal today, a Beijing Olympics 2008 100 Days Countdown Ceremony will also be held in the capital, Kathmandu.
