Fake passport

A NIGERIAN national who was working as a DJ in Shenzhen without the necessary permit was nabbed at the Luohu Checkpoint around midnight Sunday while trying to use a fake passport to leave the mainland.

The man, who was not named, arrived at the checkpoint at 11:56 p.m., minutes before the checkpoint was scheduled to close. The immigration officer found that the Namibian passport provided by him did not have the necessary anti-counterfeiting marks, and a further investigation found that the passport was fake. The man confessed he was a Nigerian and that he was heading to Hong Kong to buy some CDs.

Elite students

A TOTAL of 45 students of Shenzhen Foreign Languages School will leave the city at the end of May to study at the University of Toronto in Canada.

They are the latest students to participate in the Green Path program, a preparatory program that partners University of Toronto with elite high schools in six mainland cities including Beijing, Nanjing, Shanghai, Chongqing and Tianjin.

Fire death

A MAN died in an apartment fire in the Bagualing area in Futian District on Sunday. The fire broke out at about 7 p.m. Sunday. Police are investigating the cause of the fire.
