CHINA’S movie stars and singers have been digging into their pockets for donations for earthquake relief.
Through their joint charity fund, Hong Kong’s Jackie Chan and chairman of the big Hong Kong Emperor Entertainment Group, Albert Yeung Sau-shing, have donated 10 million yuan (US$1.4 million) to victims of the devastating earthquake that rocked Sichuan Province on Monday.
Chan, who was in Beijing filming a public service anti-piracy announcement when the quake occurred, immediately began coordinating the donation, the biggest sum on the celebrity donation list.
Money has been continuing to pour in from stars in acting circles, a Daily Sunshine report said.
Donors included mainland couples — well-known director Feng Xiaogang and his wife Xu Fan, actor Zhang Guoli and his wife Deng Jie, Gu Changwei and his wife Jiang Wenli — among other big names such as Hong Kong’s Andy Lau, Fan Bingbing and Zhou Xun from the mainland and Taiwanese star Richie Yam.
The individual amounts from each donor, which was no less than 50,000 yuan each, was not known, the paper said.
