SHENZHEN has the potential to become the most important location in China's creative industry, Mayor of Berlin Harald Wolf said Thursday.

"Shenzhen has more potential in the creative industry than many other cities in China even if it is not as well-known as Shanghai. And its link with Hong Kong gives a better opportunity for fast development," Wolf said prior to the opening of the City of Design Creative Industry Park, a subvenue of the ICIF in Futian District.

Berlin was named City of Design by UNESCO in 2006 and Shenzhen is currently competing to be named City of Design."The government should show more support for the industry, encourage creative spirit and create more chances for them to develop,"Wolf said."Freedom of thoughts and spirit of innovation are very important to creative design."Wolf is on his third visit to the city, which impresssed him with beautiful architecture, friendly smiles and fast growth.

Wolf, who is also senator for economics, technology and women's issues in Berlin, will give a keynote speech at the First International Cultural Industry Summit Forum on Friday.
