Injured Indians sent home
    2008年11月21日  08:18    Shenzhen Daily

TWO Indians, who were injured in a truck-car collision Sunday, were sent back to India on Wednesday afternoon for further treatment, doctors at Shenzhen People’s Hospital said Thursday.

The two Indians, Ananthakrishnan Balasubramanian, 55, and Kallidai Anantkrishnan, 50, were in stable condition after spending five days being treated in the hospital. They had been transferred to India for further treatment, hospital spokeswoman Lin Shaoxia said Thursday.

The Shenzhen Daily first reported that the two Indians, on a business trip to Shenzhen, were injured when their van collided with a dump truck at the intersection of Qianjin Road and Xixiang Thoroughfare in Liutang, Bao’an District, at about 2 a.m. Sunday.

Balasubramanian suffered rib fractures and Anantkrishnan suffered bruises on the chin.

Foreigners interviewed Thursday hoped related departments could take some effective measures to control the dump trucks that are often overloaded and speeding.

Indian Subhash Agarwal, 30, who has been in Shenzhen for more than five years, said there were also accidents in India, but traffic policemen conducted stricter inspections so few drivers would overload their trucks. “But here in Shenzhen, truck drivers drive on whatever lane they like at high speed,” he said.

Andrew Anderson, 34, from England, said he never drives in Shenzhen. “Although I heard from my Chinese friends that there were strict regulations for trucks, such as speed and weight limits, I don’t think they actually follow these rules. Sometimes when I was in my friends’ cars, particularly on roads like Beihuan Road, it was so horrific to drive next to them or behind them. You didn’t know how or when they would cross into your lane or slow down.”

Anderson hoped that the government could be more strict with overloaded trucks because they not only make other drivers nervous, they also cause accidents.
